Dining room *see last photo for update The dining room is a step higher than the living room. Three arches separate the rooms The entrance is thru the west archway, the other two have wrought iron railings to define the space.
Features The most dramatic thing in this room is the built in buffet. It provides storage and an architectural arch.
Changes The west wall in this room backs to a closet opposite the main entry. I plan to remove the closet and install another archway to the left of the buffet to let in more light. This will also make the room feel more spacious. The archway will contain the wrought iron gate that currently separates the east hallway into two sections. The table that James and I made will be between the new spaces. I want to have fresh flowers from the garden on that table when guests visit.
The doorway between the kitchen and dining room will be moved to the window side of the room.
The buffet will change slightly. I plan to refinish it to match better with the wood of the new dining room table (pictured). New hardware will be installed The mirror tiles will be removed and lighting installed behind the arch. I may fully finish the arch so that it looks thicker. There will be a small arched pass thru into the kitchen. This may result in the top of the buffet being concrete like the kitchen counters.
Color I want this room to contrast with the living room so I am considering a green stucco color. The saltillo tile floors will be throughout the main living areas of the home. The saltillos in the rest of the house however will be a more standard size. I have already purchased a diamond earth tones patterned area rug for this room.
Furnishings The dining room table is as pictured in the photos. I don't plan on adding any additional furniture.
Lighting The existing chandelier has been switched out for a more traditional Spanish style. I also plan on installing lighting in the buffet.
Art The north wall is highly visible from the living room. I want to hang a boldly colored painting or tapestry. There is a local artist Kate Wesselman, whose work I like.
