Family Room

This room has a woodstove and sliding glass doors on either side.  It makes for a challenging traffic pattern.

Features

This room gets light from either side and offers entry into the courtyard as well as the deck off the kitchen.

Changes

We plan on replacing the  existing woodstove with the high efficiency one that we had at the other house.  It will also be relocated into the corner since the existing location is obtrusive and prevents us using the room the way we want. Basically, we want to fit in a widescreen television... James' idea, which I am okay with...

The corner with the stove will be raised about 12-18" and there will be arched windows cut into the wall to aide in ventilation. Because I fear that the cats will jump into the window areas, we will have decorative iron bars within the frames. The living room windows have examples of these.

Color

Most of the day this room is protected from bright light.  It also flows right into the kitchen so the colors for each room will be the same.  There is a purple sofa with bold colored pillows and I want to keep the room more sleek and modern than the traditional "entertaining" rooms without making it look disconnected. It will have the saltillo tiles on the floor and a area rug to define the living space.

Furnishings

I want to keep the furnishings somewhat limited in this space because it is small.  The woodstove will be in the corner, the sofa in the middle facing a low dark wood entertainment table.  The TV will either set atop the table, or be mounted to the wall above it. I want to have 3 small square fabric or leather covered boxes that can be used as either sofa tables, seating or footrests.

Lighting

The ceiling fan will be replaced with one that suites the style better and has built in lighting. I want to do something artistic with the lighting that doesn't make the space look too busy, but I am not sure what that is yet.

Art

There is limited wall space in this room so I don't imagine anything on the walls.  I would like the flooring to define the hallway as a separate space which makes for a good place to create something decorative as far as the tiles are concerned.
