Kitchen

The kitchen has two ovens and a desk space.

Features

The kitchen has a bar area toward the family room that we use on a regular basis.

Changes

The kitchen will have more modern finishes and more of a Mediterranean look.  Since there are so many hallways, I was going to add another. I didn't want the kitchen to be a "walk-thru" area so we are going to flip it around so that the walk thru side faces a slider to the deck. I did this for the increase in light and to make the layout a little more useful.

The lighting is going to change, which will also lead to the "drop down" ceiling being removed.  The "bar" area will be on the other side of the kitchen with The new cupboard doors in this section will have glass facings on either side to allow more light into the kitchen.

The cabinet facings will be dark wood with an arched panel in the center. Hardware and fixtures will be oil rubbed bronze if possible.

The west cabinets, desk and second oven will be removed. I would like to keep the second oven but am unsure if it is needed. This new area will be open to the hallway and windows beyond the existing wall.    A countertop will be beneath, open to the hallway to be used as eating space or a buffet for entertaining in the courtyard.

If possible the appliances will be faced with the same material as the cabinetry or possibly stainless.  I will install a single bowl farmhouse sink to replace the existing double bowl stainless. The new sink will be in approximately the area where the stovetop is now.

The countertops will be concrete as I like the look and it is something that James has wanted to try.

Color

Because there is no definite separation between the kitchen and family room I am unsure which color I will end up choosing as I want both to be a uniform color.  I plan to have glass tile as the backing on the wall facings. Recycled glass is my preference if available.

Lighting

Under cabinet lighting will be used extensively.  Overhead lighting will consist of small pot lights to wash over the cabinet fronts.
