Redwoods National Park California Summer 2002

I had always wanted to return to see the redwoods of California since my first visit when I was a child.  I remembered the grand trees and the musky organic scent of fresh rain in the forest.  James and I decided that we would spend a week and drive down highway 101, with the redwoods as our final destination.  It was a beautiful drive, with many sights to see and locations to visit along the way.  We stopped in Tillamook Oregon for some cheese, visited the Sea Lion Caves, and at the Big Tree sign near Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. We camped at sites along highway 101, if at all possible under a redwood. Our goal of the trip was to visit the worlds tallest tree.

My favorite location however was Stout Grove in Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park. It was accessible for those who are willing to travel on a dirt road, one lane at times through the forest. The trees were amazing, it felt like a natural cathedral to stand among them.
